Acne (or pimples) is a widespread skin condition that usually occurs during adolescence. This skin condition is associated with increased levels of androgens (male sex hormones) in the body, resulting in increased sebum production in the sebaceous glands. If the metabolism of skin cells - keratinocytes - is disturbed, the pores on the skin surface can become blocked, and as sebum production increases, the amount of acne-causing bacteria increases and inflammatory processes begin to form.

Most often, acne manifests as microcomedones, open or closed comedones, inflammatory papules/pustules or nodules/cysts:

For some people, acne can cause physical and emotional discomfort, and when acne heals, it can leave scars or red spots called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH).

Treatments for acne-prone skin depend on its severity and may include the use of both external cosmetics and internal medications that suppress inflammation and reduce sebum production and help prevent infections. Most often, problem or acne-damaged skin is recommended:

  • Follow a proper skin care routine : Clean your skin regularly and gently to remove excess sebum and impurities. Choose products that are designed for your skin type.
  • Look for cosmetic products with active ingredients suitable for problematic skin : salicylic acid, AHA and PHA acids such as lactic, glycolic, lactobionic acids, retinoids such as retinol, retinoic acid, retinal and other ingredients that can help clear existing acne and prevent for new pimples to appear.
  • Regular skin exfoliation : This is a procedure that removes the top layer of skin cells.
  • Contact a specialist in time : in more severe cases, only a doctor can prescribe antibiotics or hormonal drugs that will help solve acne-damaged skin problems.

If you have problem skin, it is important to follow good skin care routine habits and follow a healthier lifestyle, principles of a balanced diet and avoid stress.
